With the atmosphere just right for ghoulish experiences, we’ve rounded up three must-visit haunted houses and ghost tours that promise to deliver spine-tingling terror and unforgettable thrills. Sacramento Scream Park is rated the scariest attraction in California. They have three or four indoor haunted houses, which change in theme yearly.  They have on-site free parking and also offer food trucks where you can purchase snacks. Sacramento Scream Park relies on low-tech practical special effects, meaning there are more scare actors than animatronics. The scare actors are some of the best in the business and all play unique characters while rarely playing into overdone cliches. This haunted attraction guarantees that you will not be touched by any of the scare actors and many find this to be the safest haunted house they have gone to.

Cincinnati Fear Fest is one of the most highly-rated haunted festivals in Ohio. Usually, they have three haunted attractions, including a trail, plus several scare zones that will leave you feeling fully immersed in the scares. With multiple food and drink options to purchase from, including specialty cocktails, along with live music and free on-site parking, they make sure that the cost you pay is well-worth your visit. If you are feeling extra brave, think about attending one of their Glowstick Fright Nights, where everyone gets one glowstick and all of the other lights are turned off for the night, making everything extra scary.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Weston, WV

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia is a 160-year-old historical landmark. From the mid-1800s until 1994, it hosted mentally ill patients in an effort to better their lives. Like many asylums at the time, this was done in ways we would now consider torture or cruel and unusual. After it was shut down, it was reopened for historical daytime tours to teach the public about the history of the asylum. It is said that those who unfortunately died in the asylum due to the bad medical practices haunt the area. You can book a nighttime, guided tour where you will be taken through the four areas that are said to have the most paranormal activity. If you want a more immersive experience, you can book a six-hour-long or eight-hour-long overnight experience, where you can venture on your own around the asylum and are even encouraged to bring your ghost-hunting equipment.

As the days grow shorter and the nights creep in, now is the perfect time to embrace the chills and thrills of haunted attractions. Whether you’re drawn to the theatrical scares of haunted houses or intrigued by the real-life mysteries of haunted tours, these spine-tingling experiences are sure to leave a lasting impression. Don’t wait for the spirits to pass you by—start planning your next haunted adventure today!
