Connecting the Florida Keys from south of Miami to Key West, the Overseas Highway is 113 miles of tropical islands, sand bars, and blue waters. There are many stops along the way, such as Key Largo, where you can go diving or snorkeling to see the Christ of the Abyss, sea turtles, and a coral reef. The Overseas Highway also includes the Seven Mile Bridge which has original and rebuilt portions. You can stop and walk along the original bridge and take in the views of turquoise water and sand bar.

Starting at Shenandoah National Park and ending at the Great Smoky Mountains

National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles of winding mountain roads, rolling

hills, and colorful wildflower meadows. For most of the drive, it runs along the spine of

Blue Ridge, one of the major mountain ranges that make up the Appalachian Mountains. There are plenty of scenic overlooks, hiking trails, and historic sites to stop at along the parkway. Be sure to plan this drive accordingly, as many parts of it close during the winter.

California and Oregon

Stretching 656 miles up the coast of California, the Pacific Coast Highway is one of the most well-known scenic drives for a reason. From redwood forests to rugged cliffs, the coastal views of California change drastically as you drive from San Diego to San Francisco. Near San Francisco, the Pacific Coast Highway turns into Highway 101, which you can continue on to reach Oregon, where it turns into the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway. The byway has numerous parks, historical sights, and lighthouses, where you can stop and explore the lush greenery.

Stunning landscapes, red rock formations, canyons, and forests encompass this 123-mile drive. With great views of the plateaus and slot canyons of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and ending near Capitol Reef National Park, there are many opportunities to stop and take in the scenery.

The beauty of America’s scenic drives lies not just in their stunning views, but in the stories and memories created along the way. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful escape into nature, a thrilling adventure through rugged landscapes, or a picturesque journey filled with historic charm, these drives offer something for every traveler. So next time you’re planning a getaway, consider taking the scenic route. After all, sometimes the most memorable part of a trip isn’t the destination—it’s the journey itself. Happy driving!
